About MA in Educational Studies

The MA in Educational Studies is an advanced degree for licensed teachers who want to advance their curricular and content knowledge. Graduates of this program can go on to serve as reading specialists, department chairs in a specific content area, academic coaches, learning specialists, curriculum specialists, and to teach College in the Schools (CIS) courses. This flexible master's program will give you the specialized instruction you need to advance your career or transition into a new role. The blended delivery model maximizes flexibility by combining online and face-to-face learning models, providing students an innovative learning opportunity that works with even the busiest of schedules.

Core Curriculum

Four (4) core 3-credit courses:
CIED 670: Assessment for Learning
CIED 532: Curriculum, P-16
CIED 603: Education Equity & Inclusive Practices
CIED 551: Learning Design with Technology

In addition to the four core courses, students will choose one of the following concentrations.

Concentrations

Designed for in-service P-12 educators who want hands-on experience in STEM education with engineering. Students will receive a rigorous introduction to integrated STEM engineering content, with an emphasis placed on how to apply the material in P-12 STEM classrooms.


Sharpen your skills and increase the effectiveness of your reading instruction as a literacy leader, coach, a reading intervention or remediation provider.


Prepare to advocate for technology innovation and lead equitable learning initiatives as a technology leader in K-12 education. You'll develop and build capacity for leading school or university-wide initiatives that leverage learning technologies to support today's learners in an ever-evolving digital learning environment.

Advance your curricular and content knowledge in math.


Gain a solid foundation in the intellectual and cultural history of Latin America, Spain and the United States while developing your verbal and written abilities in Spanish.

Dr. Eleni Roulis

Dr.Roulis received her PhD in Education at the University of Minnesota, her MA in Literature from New York University, New York, and a BA degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education from St. John's University, New York. Dr.Roulis is an expert in curriculum development and race, gender, and equity studies.

Amy Smith

Dr. Amy Smith

Dr. Smith earned her PhD in Language, Literacy and Schooling from the University of New Hampshire. She is a literacy methods specialist and directs the K-12 Reading Endorsement program.

Dr. Jan Frank

Dr. Jan Frank

Dr. Frank earned her Ph.D. in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is a teacher committed to social justice and working toward equity in education for all learners for over 30 years - teaching English and speech at the secondary level and then courses for both pre-service and in-service teachers in higher education.

Literacy: MN K-12 Reading Endorsement

Mrs. Betsy Kelly completed her MA in Educational Studies with a concentration in K-12 Reading. Since completing her degree she has held roles as an elementary classroom teacher, instructional coach, reading specialist, and private tutor. Mrs. Kelly currently teaches first grade and has a thriving private practice for reading intervention as well.
