ACCREDITATION, APPROVALS AND RECOGNITION

Why Accreditation and Approvals Matter

The University of St. Thomas and the School of Education hold its students, faculty and staff to the highest standards, and we are proud of the following external recognitions that offer our students pathways to professional licensure and quality assurance through continuous program improvement.

Accreditation and State Board Approvals

  • BOSA: Board of School Administrators
  • PELSB: Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board
  • HLC: Higher Learning Commission
  • BOSA: Board of School Administrators

Since 2001, the Board of School Administrators (BOSA) has been reviewed and approved preparation programs for school administrators.

In 2018, following a comprehensive program review and site visit, the Department of Educational Leadership administrative programs for principals, directors of special education, and superintendents received a 5-year approval from BOSA.

PELSB: Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board

The Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) is charged with oversight of post-secondary teacher preparation programs and educator licensure.

After a comprehensive unit review and site visit, the Board granted the St. Thomas School of Education "Full Continuing Approval" to offer teacher preparation programs through June 30, 2025.
