Leadership in Student Affairs Certificate

The 13-credit Leadership in Student Affairs Certificate is designed to give foundational training and leadership skills to prepare you to support today's students at colleges and universities across the country.

Our program has a unique focus on leadership, social justice and theory-to-practice, providing an opportunity for broad application upon earning the certificate.

Students in the program have a variety of professional work and experience. Some students have little to no student affairs experience while others have a few to several years of experience as full-time professionals in higher education contexts.

Curriculum Requirements (13 credits)

EDLD 703: Introduction to Student Affairs (3 credits)

EDLD 707: Introduction to Higher Education (3 credits)

EDLD 806: College Student Development Theory (3 credits)

EDLD 855: Social Justice in Higher Education (3 credits)

EDLD 720: Student Affairs Portfolio
(1 credit, not required if pursuing the LSA Master's Degree following certificate courses)

    This certificate program is 100% online. Students participate virtually in synchronous courses with other students, learning in real time from faculty who have extensive experience in the field of student affairs.

    An in-person option is available on St. Thomas' Minneapolis campus if preferred.

    Most students will finish this program in one year.

    Graduates of our program obtain positions at a variety of institutional types and in many different functional areas, including: Admissions, Academic Advising, Alumni Relations, Campus Activities, Athletics, Career Services, Disability Services, Greek Life, Financial Aid, Judicial Affairs, Orientation, First-Year Programs, Residence Life, Service Learning, and many more!
