Take me to TommieBotThe residency model is a district-serving teacher preparation program that pairs a rigorous full-year classroom apprenticeship with master's-level education content. This model provides residents with the theory of effective teaching and 1,200 hours of student teaching alongside an effective and trained mentor teacher.
Residents are employed by the district partners and receive stipends and health benefits as they learn to teach, and then commit to teaching in their districts for 3 or more years. Upon finishing the program, they earn a teaching license and master's degree.
SUTR aims to recruit, prepare, and retain highly qualified teachers who share similar life experiences as the diverse student population in Saint Paul Public Schools. SUTR provides non-licensed education professionals an affordable, accelerated program to earn their Minnesota teaching license and master's degree in 15 months from the University of St. Thomas.
The Minneapolis St. Thomas Residency is a pathway to licensure that will prepare highly effective and diverse special education and elementary teachers who will create increased opportunities for students in Minneapolis Public Schools.
Our Charter Schools Residency Program is a non-conventional teacher preparation pathway designed to meet the high-needs teaching areas in Minnesota charter schools. In collaboration with a consortium of charter school partners, this program strives to prepare and retain high-quality licensed educators who already hold a bachelor's degree, including teachers from underrepresented communities, to increase student achievement. We partner with district Grow Your Own or Special Education Pipeline grants.
