MA in Educational Studies (for experienced teachers)
MA IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
The M.A. in Special Education is an advanced degree for licensed teachers who want to advance their curricular and content knowledge. If you need to be in compliance with College in the Schools (CIS) requirements, this is the degree you're looking for. Additionally, graduates of this degree program can go on to serve as reading specialists, department chairs in a specific content area, academic coaches, learning specialists and curriculum specialists.
Four (4) core 3-credit courses: CIED 670: Assessment for Learning CIED 532: Curriculum, P-16 CIED 603: Education Equity & Inclusive Practices CIED 551: Use of Technology for Instruction
In addition to the four core courses, students will choose one of the following concentrations:
SPED 750 Survey of Exceptionality SPED 785 Behavior Management SPED 714 Collaboration Skills for School Professionals SPED 716 Fundamentals for Students with Mild to Moderate Needs SPED 719 Social, Emotional and Behavioral Interventions SPED 717 Elementary Academic Intervention
FACULTY
Dr. L. Lynn Stansberry Brusnahan
Professor Brusnahan is the parent of a young adult with autism and she coordinates the autism spectrum disorders certificate, license and master's program. Lynn earned her Ph.D. in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2007). She received a Masters degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Special Education and her undergraduate degree from Purdue University.
Shelley is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education in the School of Education. Shelley started at the University of St. Thomas in 2006 after working in Minneapolis Public Schools for six years. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2001 in Educational Psychology, Special Education.
