  • Exploring children’s thinking related to rational number, engineering education, and assignments that help improve pre-service teacher education

I have been at the University of St. Thomas since 2011, teaching mostly mathematics methods courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Prior to working at the University of St. Thomas, I was a classroom teacher in St. Paul for 13 years.

Throughout my time in graduate school I was fortunate to teach mathematics content courses for the elementary pre-service teachers as well as do research in several areas. One of those areas, working on the Rational Number Project, has continued to be an area of great interest for me and allows me to work with researchers from the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin—River Falls. I enjoy working with my colleagues in teacher education, mathematics, and engineering to provide the highest quality education here at the University of St. Thomas. I have peers from across the country that I work with to create new and engaging assignments for pre-service secondary mathematics teachers. I enjoy collaborating on projects as well as working with students. Teaching and working with students continues to be my favorite part of this career and I continually look for ways to make my courses the best learning experience for my students.
